Decoration turned into art

Mehmet & Dimonah lksel founded lksel Decorative Arts in 1988; the London-based couple spent many years in India creating and running a studio that hand-paints their own designs for interior decoration. Their inspiration comes mostly from a pre-industrial world that produced great periods of style in the decorative arts. Spanning many cultures and periods, his collections include architectural, botanical, ornamental and landscape decorations.

Iksel is world-renowned for holding hundreds of fresh painting designs converted into highly realistic printed wallpaper. To work with the brand, the client must choose the image and size that best suits their purpose. The indications are only given to establish height/width ratios that cannot be transgressed. What you see here is the result of 30 years of full-time artistic work in an atelier with large teams of painters.

A few years ago, it was calculated that it would take a painter around a thousand years to paint a complete mural. If you add up all the archive works, it’s much more. But that’s just the painting itself. The most important thing is editing and perfecting the files that give rise to these prints. This isn’t done by computers, but by artists who make millions of aesthetic decisions in fractions of a second to get the right result.
