Introducing G.O.A.T. – a compendium of some of our Greatest of All Time kilims and carpet stripes that form part of Andrew Martin’s DNA, along with some striking new designs and colourways.

A rich history

Kilims and carpet stripes have a rich history, rooted in traditional textile production across various regions, originating in Central Asia, with some of the oldest known examples dating back to the 4th or 5th century CE, whilst striped patterns in textiles have been found in ancient civilizations, including Egypt and Persia.

These textiles often carry symbolic meaning, with patterns representing aspects of daily life, beliefs, and tribal identity. Techniques for kilim production have spread throughout the Middle East, North Africa, the Balkans, and parts of Europe, each region developing its own distinct styles and motifs.

Today, kilims are appreciated worldwide for their artistic value and are used in both traditional and contemporary interior design.

At Andrew Martin we’ve long championed the use of these vibrant, intricate designs. We’ve been on a global quest for the discovery lasting 45 years, uncovering exciting textiles and handcrafted cloths to share with our customers.

Las Salinas

A smart, irregular striped wool blend in red, pink and neutral tones reminiscent of seaside holidays in Cornwall. Take off your shoes and feel the sand between your toes.

Cuchillas Multi

Cuchilla means knife in Spanish which is perfectly represented by this colourful, woven stripe design with serrated-edges. The colourway is reminiscent of Aztec provenance and works beautifully on its own or as a co-ordinate to bring everything together.

Peru

Peru is a striking design reminiscent of a Totem pole. Woven with a lovely soft boucle yarn on a organic linen ground, this fabric is a real statement. Available in fresh ivory, warm grey and olive green.

Es Cavalet

Taking its name from a white sand, nudist beach in Ibiza, Es Cavalet epitomises passionate Hispanic culture in neutral tones. It’s a soft, vintage carpet stripe perfect for upholstery or cushions. A casual backdrop to the busy kilim prints of the Ipanema collection.

Orillo Pink

A classic, heavyweight kilim design brought up to date in in pink and grey hues. Use on cushions for upholstery for a bold impact to bring excitement to a room. Orillo is reminiscent of ancient Amazonian tribes and breathes new life into rich Brazilian culture.
