Midsummer Eve
Icons by Boråstapeter
Let the midsummer night’s flowers bloom all year round
Midsummer Eve is designed by Jenny Hahne Gadd and traditionally printed using the paste print method in two colourways. The hand-painted pattern features summer flowers like clover, columbine and bellflowers, either on a bright white background or a deep matt black one.
Whichever shade you choose, Midsummer Eve brings a fresh, summery feel to bedrooms and kitchens alike – a pattern where the poetry of the midsummer night blooms all year round.

Summer Magic
Midsummer – a tradition full of magic and history
Midsummer is strongly associated with Sweden but is also celebrated in Finland – where a large bonfire lights up the night instead of the traditional maypole. The tradition is thought to have come from Germany during the Middle Ages and has been celebrated in roughly the same way since the 19th century.
Seven types of flowers
Pick seven kinds of flowers on Midsummer’s Eve, place them under your pillow, and dream of your future love. The flowers must be picked in silence – otherwise, they lose their magical power according to legend.
Supernatural night
In folklore, the Midsummer night is considered magical. It is said that supernatural beings appear, and in the past, people believed they could predict the future through rituals.
The midsummer menu
Since the 1800s, new potatoes and pickled herring have been staples of the Midsummer meal. Strawberries only became part of the tradition in the 20th century.
Flowers in the hair
Today, the flower crown is mainly decorative, but in the past, it was believed to have magical powers – especially if woven during Midsummer night.
Dance around the midsummer pole
No Midsummer without dancing around the pole! It is dressed with leaves and flowers before being raised, and in Dalarna, many wear folk costumes while musicians play.
